National Director of Operations, Residential Eating Disorder Division

Deandra Christianson received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and then continued on to receive her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. While in her Master’s program she earned a Counseling Specialization and focused on treatment of children and adolescents. She is currently completing her PhD in Organizational Leadership at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
Deandra has been with Center for Discovery in many capacities, both clinical and administrative, since 2013. She has been afforded many opportunities to speak at conferences and other engagements throughout the country. Deandra has worked with individuals with eating disorders, self-injurious behaviors, mood disorders, and other co-occurring issues in both residential and outpatient treatment settings. Additionally, she has worked with schools in program development and implementation that focuses on student leadership and bullying prevention and intervention. Deandra is passionate about her work, as well as, eating disorder awareness, advocacy, and treatment.

Regional Director

Perla completed her undergraduate studies at The University of Iceland where she studied Early Childhood Development and completed two master’s degrees at Washington State University, Los Angeles. While earning her degree in Research Psychology focusing on multi-cultural issues and conflict resolution between adolescents and their parents she received an award by the American Psychological Association for outstanding research. Once completed, her focus became Marriage and Family Therapy as she was already passionate about making a difference in the field of eating disorders.

Perla has over 14 years of experience working with both adolescent and adult populations with eating disorders and co-occurring disorders in inpatient, residential, and day treatment settings. She has been supervising other eating disorder professionals for the past 5 years and now holds a certificate as a CEDS Supervisor.

Director of Dietary Services- Adult ED RTC

Jamie Atkins RD, CEDRD, is the Director of Dietary Services for the Adult RTC at Center for Discovery.  She has a passion for helping people meet their nutritional needs without losing sight of the social and emotional value of food. With a non-judgmental approach, Jamie helps people create a healthy relationship among food, mind, & body.  She believes in helping her clients to find their own path, thus allowing them to take ownership of their recovery, and at times does so utilizing a DBT informed approach she developed for Dietitians.  She has worked in the field for over a decade, and has experience working in all levels of care; hospitalization, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient.

Jamie is a Licensed Body Positive Facilitator and is an advocate for putting an end to weight stigma while spreading the message of size acceptance through speaking publicly on the topic across the country.  She has also spoken on various other topics related to eating disorders at the national and international level.  She is active in the community, both by raising eating disorder and weight stigma awareness and being on the board of the Los Angeles Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) serving as the Social Media Chair, and Association of Size Diversity and Health serving as a Member At Large.  Jamie believes the most important step in helping a client on the path to recovery is meeting them where they are, and helping them to build a recovery they can see for themselves, bringing together mind, body, and soul.

Program Director

Regina McAuley earned her Masters Degree in Counseling from Canyon College. Regina is the Program Director at Center For Discovery Thousand Oaks, CA treating adults and families impacted by eating disorders.

In addition to being the Facility Manager, Regina has 21 year experience in healthcare administration and counseling adults with chemical dependency and mental illness.

Regina’s hope is to become a nurse in the future to further her knowledge and scope of practice within Center for Discovery. Her passion is in assisting clients and families overcoming the struggles and difficulties of eating disorders and making treatment as therapeutic and comfortable as possible.

Kimberly Melcon, MA, LMFT

Primary Therapist

Kimberly Melcon, MA, LMFT is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for Center for Discovery. She earned  her Master’s degree in Psychology from Phillips Graduate Institute and her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling from California State University Northridge. Kimberly is the Primary Therapist at Center For Discovery Thousand Oaks RTC  treating adults and families impacted by eating disorders, mental health, substance abuse. She also has a private practice in Agoura Hills, CA.

Kimberly has always had a passion for working with children, adolescents and families. She began her career as a Behavioral Therapist for individuals and families impacted by Autism and other special needs. Kimberly pursued a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling in hopes to gain a greater understanding of how the education system supports special needs. During her 15 years in this field, Kimberly noticed that parents and siblings had very little support so she found herself constantly providing extra support to the family system. The needs of the families inspired Kimberly to pursue another Master’s degree in Psychology and attain a license in marriage and family therapy.  

In addition to being the Primary Therapist, Kimberly treated adolescents and adults and families impacted by eating disorders in another eating disorder facility working in both Residential and Outpatient levels of care. Kimberly had the privilege to see the value in both levels of care. Prior to working with eating disorders, Kimberly completed her internship at a community resource center called Friends of the Family in North Hills, Ca. During her 6 years with Friends of the Family, Kimberly provided therapy for individuals, couples, families who struggles with various disadvantages such as low income, poverty, lack of education, employment and family and community violence. In addition to this, Kimberly co-facilitated parenting, anger management, and other family violence groups.

Kimberly is very passionate about her work with eating disorders and is dedicated to the field. Kimberly is currently pursuing her CEDS and one of her future goals with Center for Discovery is to become a program director.

Kelley Storrer, RD

Kelley Storrer, RD

Registered Dietitian

Kelley Storrer is a Registered Dietitian and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and immediately completed her dietetic internship at California State University, Fresno.  Kelley is the Registered Dietitian at Center for Discovery’s RTC in Thousand Oaks, CA treating adults and families impacted by eating disorders.

In addition to serving as the dietitian in a residential setting for both adolescents and adults, Kelley has worked at an IOP for eating disorders and an adolescent mental health RTC within Center for Discovery.  She’s also part of the Discovery in Recovery App team in which she develops content and streamlines the dietary features.

Kelley is very passionate about her work with the clients and enjoys taking the time to get to know each one individually, outside of their eating disorders, to increase rapport and promote success in recovery.  She also enjoys training new dietitians within the company so that she can share her knowledge and help spread the Discovery Difference.

Vladimir Lipovetsky, MD

Vladimir Lipovetsky, MD

Program Psychiatrist

Vladimir Lipovetsky is the medical director at Center For Discovery Woodland Hills treating adolescents, adults and families impacted by psychiatric conditions, including eating disorders, substance abuse and others.  Dr. Lipovetsky is a psychiatrist who earned his MD at the David Geffen UCLA School of Medicine.  He completed his psychiatry residency training at UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute.  There he also completed a fellowship in trauma. He is a board certified psychiatrist with 20 years of experience of treating patients across the range of psychiatric disorders, including eating disorders.

Dr. Shilpa Jindani, MD

Program Physician

Dr. Shilpa Jindani is a board-certified diplomat of the American Academy of Family Medicine. She received her training in India at Sawai Man Singh Medical College and completed her residency in Family Medicine at UVM/Vermont. She is currently practicing as a Family Medicine Physician in California and Medical Director at Health Net. Dr. Jindani believes in overall health maintenance through integrative, preventive, and mental health. She serves as the Vice President of Tri Valley Indian Medical association and is on the Medical Advisory Board of Find Your Care, LLC.

Dr. Jindani’s passion is taking care of her patients, and in her free time she enjoys reading, hiking, and yoga.
